Integrated care systems and equity: prospects and plans

Purpose Policies on integrated care have waxed and waned over time in the English health sectors, culminating creation of 42 systems (ICSs) which were confirmed law July 2022. One four fundamental purposes ICSs is to tackle inequalities. This paper reports content overarching ICS plans order explore how they focus inequalities strategies intend employ make progress. It explores approach may help facilitate progress equity. Design/methodology/approach The analysis based a sample 23 strategic using framework extract relevant information Findings place-based nature working across traditional boundaries with non-health partners gives potential for them not only access healthcare services, but also address behaviours wider social determinants reveal commitment addressing all three these issues, although there variation their tackling Originality/value study adds our knowledge importance assigned by new illustrates ways features can an area prime society.
